These terms apply when you use Uncle Polar Spanish at unclepolarspanish.com. By creating an account or using the site you agree to them. Please read them, along with our Privacy policy.

1. Who we are

Uncle Polar Spanish is run by Uncle Polar Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17312029), whose registered office is at 20 Wenlock Road, London, United Kingdom, N1 7GU (“we”, “us”). You can contact us through the Help page or at hello@unclepolar.com.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use the site.
• Give a real email address you can read and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
• One account is for one person. Please do not share it.
• You can delete your account at any time on the Account page.

3. Free and paid plans

With a free account, Vocab words 1 to 1,000 are free for as long as you like. Everything else in Uncle Polar Spanish needs a paid plan, and every paid plan starts with a free 7-day trial of everything. We show the price before you pay. Paid plans are not on sale yet: until they are, everything is free.

• Who sells to you. Paid plans are sold by our online reseller Paddle.com, which is the merchant of record for all orders. Paddle handles payment, invoices, sales tax and refunds. Its buyer terms apply to your purchase.
• Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. We will tell you the price before you pay.
• Free trial. If your plan starts with a free trial, you will not be charged until the trial ends. You can cancel before then without paying.
• Cancelling. You can cancel at any time. You keep paid features until the end of the period you have paid for.
• Refunds. You can have a full refund of your first payment, or of a yearly renewal, if you ask within 14 days of it. Monthly renewals are not refunded, but you can cancel at any time. See our Refund policy for details. If you live in the UK or EU, you also have the legal rights described below.
• Price changes. If we change the price of your plan, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies. You can cancel before then.

4. Your right to cancel (UK and EU customers)

As a consumer, you normally have 14 days from buying a digital service to change your mind. Because the site starts working for you straight away, at checkout you will be asked to agree that it starts at once. If you then cancel within the 14 days, you may be asked to pay for the part of the service you have already used, unless our refund policy above gives you more.

5. Using the site fairly

Please do not:

• try to get around limits, access other people's accounts or disrupt the site;
• copy, scrape or resell the site's content, audio or word lists, or use automated tools to download them;
• use Speaking or any other feature to produce abusive, illegal or harmful content;
• choose a display name that is offensive or pretends to be someone else.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we do, we will tell you why, unless the law stops us.

6. AI features

Uncle Polar in Speaking is an AI, not a person. Pronunciation scores and the natural voices are also made by AI services. They are very useful but can make mistakes, so please do not rely on them as the only word on what is correct. Daily limits apply to the AI features so the site stays affordable for everyone.

7. Our content

The site, its design, texts, exercises, recordings and the Uncle Polar name and bear belong to us or to the people who license them to us. You may use them for your own learning. Some content comes from others and is credited on the site, including sentences from Tatoeba, word frequencies from FrequencyWords by Hermit Dave and word forms from lemmatization-lists by Michal Měchura. Anything you write in the site, such as notebook entries and memory hooks, stays yours.

8. Changes to the site

We keep improving Uncle Polar Spanish, so features may change. If we make a change that significantly reduces what a paid plan gives you, we will tell you and you may cancel and get a refund for the time you have not used.

9. Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep the site running and accurate, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of mistakes. We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable or for business losses, as the site is for personal use. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is important, we will tell you by email or on the site before it applies. If you do not agree, you can cancel and delete your account.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales or, if you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, in the courts where you live. You also keep the protection of the consumer laws of the country you live in. If you have a complaint, please contact us first and we will try to put it right.
